The entrance to the Incubator inside the Lab System in Spectrobes: Beyond the Portals

The Incubator is an area within the Lab System onboard the Patrol Cruiser, allowing for Spectrobes to be placed in digitally-simulated environments for the purposes of training, feeding, and Evolution.

In the Incubator, players can feed Spectrobes Minerals collected through Excavation to increase their stats. They can also evolve the Spectrobes here. Cubes found throughout the games confer expanded functionality to the Incubator, including the ability to Evolve Spectrobes (only needed in Spectrobes), apply Custom Parts (not possible in Spectrobes: Origins), and change the terrain of the Incubator room to match the Spectrobe's Property.

Differences Between Games[]

Spectrobes[]

Spectrobes Incubator

In Spectrobes, the Incubator system is straight-forward; up to two Spectrobes can be placed inside the four rooms and fed Minerals to increase their stats, such as HP, ATK and DEF. Child Spectrobes have a certain amount of time they must spend in the Incubator before they can evolve, while Adult Spectrobes have to be at a certain level in addition to the first condition. If a Spectrobe is ready to evolve, it will be surrounded in blue sparkles. Evolution can be executed by selecting a Spectrobe with the "magnify" button. The Spectrobe will emit a flash of light and form a stone-like cocoon around itself. Breaking this cocoon with the stylus will reveal the evolved form.

The color of the Incubator room can be set to one of four modes, each matching an elemental Property: Normal, Corona, Aurora and Flash. Matching the Property of both the terrain and the Spectrobe inside will shorten the amount of time said Spectrobe needs to incubate before it can evolve.

Spectrobes: Beyond the Portals[]

In Spectrobes: Beyond the Portals, the need to incubate Spectrobes for varying amounts of real-world time in order to evolve them has been removed. Each room once again can hold up to two Spectrobes, with four rooms available normally and eight through Card Input. Child Spectrobes need only to be fed a certain amount of Minerals to evolve, while Adult Spectrobes now have 3 requirements to fulfill before they can evolve: the overall level, the number of battles won, and the number of Minerals consumed. Important to note is that Child Spectrobes in this game cannot increase their HP, ATK or DEF stats (since the game focuses on the EXP system). Additionally, newly evolved Spectrobes no longer need to be freed from a stone chrysalis.

The Incubator's elemental modes are instead called "Terrains" and have more well-defined appearances:

  • Aurora terrain is placed on a forest floor, with trees surrounding the area.
  • Corona terrain is placed in a desert with a bright sun overhead.
  • Flash terrain is placed on a beach, with a moonlit night sky overhead.
  • Normal terrain is placed on green plains with small rock formations. A blue sky is visible overhead, and some mountains are in the distance.

Additionally, a special terrain that possesses all three properties can be unlocked through Card Input:

  • This Special Terrain is placed on a secluded green plain with a paw print-shaped rock formation. The plain is surrounded on three sides by waterfalls, with a rainbow and the moon visible in the background. Purple particles of light dance about the screen.

Matching the Property of the Spectrobe incubating, terrain type, and Mineral being fed will double the stat boost gained from Minerals. While Dark Property Spectrobes cannot usually obtain this bonus due to lack of a matching terrain type, feeding them on the Special Terrain will grant double stat boosts.

Any number of rooms can share one of the four basic terrain types, but only one room at a time can equip the Special Terrain. Additionally, four more Incubator rooms can also be unlocked through Card Input, bringing the maximum total up to 8 rooms.

Rooms[]

Spectrobes: Origins[]

Spectrobes: Origins introduced a different approach to the Incubator systems of previous games due to the differences between the hardware of the DS and Wii. There are now six rooms with each holding up to six Spectrobes each. In this game, Rallen or Jeena directly enters the Incubator room as a 3D environment to interact with the Spectrobes inside. here, players can pet Spectrobes and drop Minerals behind or in front of themselves to feed to Spectrobes. The rooms appear as either a beachfront at night or an island floating in the sky, with environment type having no effect on the efficacy of raising Spectrobes. Each room contains a small, raised platform on the far right of the area (from the entrance's point of view) to place Kyptos, devices which can level up Spectrobes without requiring direct player action. Another Explansion Cube can be found at Bahmud in the Fire Ruins B1 at the last room.
