The Nanairo system’s star and five “main” planets

Nanairo is the main star system in the Spectrobes series and is the largest of all known systems. It consists of a white star with seven-colored light, called the Sun by the system’s inhabitants, and seven orbiting planets. They are:

  • Genshi, the closest planet to the star and smallest in the system. This warm planet has both lush jungles and volcanic lava floes.
  • Daichi, a planet of grasslands and massive flattop mesas tall enough to reach into the stratosphere. It has an omnipresent aurora that causes damage to any non Corona-property organism on top of the tallest mesas.
  • Kollin, an Earth like planet and the main population center of the system. It possesses multiple enormous cities with buildings reaching above the clouds and is surrounded by two artificial ring structures that serve as shipyards.
  • Nessa, the largest planet in the system and completely covered in Mineral-rich deserts. It has a ring system and is sparsely inhabited, with most humans living in an underground colony.
  • Ziba, a planet split in half due to the intense magnetic fields of its two tidally-locked moons Akaboshi and Aoboshi. It is the furthest planet in the system typically visited by humans.
  • Himuro, a planet composed of ice and shaped like a brilliantly cut jewel. It is eventually revealed to be entirely artificial, even containing technology capable of reorienting the entire planet.
  • Meido, the furthest planet in the system. Once inhabited by ancient human settlers, it served as the Krawl's main base during their first invasion of Nanairo.

In order, Genshi, Daichi, Kollin, Nessa, and Ziba orbit the Nanairo Sun, while Meido’s orbital path seems to go through the Nanairo Sun, and Himuro orbits Meido. Himuro is classified as a planet in-game, but orbits Meido like a moon. Further complicating this distinction is that Himuro is entirely artificial, meaning it could be seen as a large space station or man-made satellite and not a planetary body. For the sake of simplicity and consistency with the rest of the wiki, all bodies listed, excepting the Nanairo Sun, will be referred to as planets.

As of Spectrobes: Beyond The Portals, there are also three stable interstellar Portals located in this system (technically four counting the one in Spectrobes: Origins, which appears and disappears at random). All three lead to dead star systems that had been previously overrun by Krawl.

Humans have inhabited the star system for thousands of years, as indicated by ancient technology like the Ancient Starship and portal-disrupting Towers. Kollin serves as the main population center, with the other planets having either a small human presence or being completely empty. Many notable characters make this system their home, including natives like Rallen, Jeena, and Commander Grant, or foreigners like Aldous. The Nanairo Planetary Patrol oversees peacekeeping operations throughout the inner five planets, and acts, in some capacity, as a regulatory organization.

The Nanairo system has been a target of two major Krawl invasions. Fortunately, the system is abundant in fossilized Spectrobes and the Minerals that nourish them. However, the native inhabitants had long ago lost the knowledge of Spectrobe Mastery required to awaken and command the Spectrobes. This was the case until the timely arrival of Aldous, giving Rallen the equipment and advice needed to defend the system.

Spectrobes[]

The Nanairo system is the setting of Spectrobes and the target of a Krawl invasion. They firstly established a nest on the remote planet Meido. From there, multiple masses of Krawl were launched to invade multiple planets of the inner system at once. Rallen and Jeena, and thus the system at large, were alerted to the Krawl presence while on patrol near Daichi. They were sent to investigate a newly-crashed object there and were surprised to find a life-support pod containing a man in stasis. Rallen found and activated the man’s Prizmod shortly before being attacked by a group of Krawl. After defeating them, Rallen and Jeena are alerted to the multiple space-borne Krawl swarms and travel from planet to planet defeating each of the Leader-type Krawl spearheading the invasions. However, upon reaching Meido, the duo find the Krawl have terraformed it, and the atmosphere contains a layer of Krawl impassible to spacecraft. They turn their attention to nearby Himuro, revealed to be an artificial, prismatic, diamond-shaped superweapon designed by ancient humans for such an occasion. They activate a mechanism to reorient the entire planet, focusing the light from the system’s star onto Meido, destroying the atmospheric barrier. Once on Meido, they discover it has been partially hollowed out by the Xelles. After destroying the head Xelles and its guardian, Jeena reports that the planet has become unstable and the two evacuate. Whether the planet itself or just the surface collapsed is unknown, as the characters immediately return to Kollin. The ultimate fates of both Himuro and Meido are unclear, as they are not featured, seen, nor mentioned in any future game, aside from a brief mention of Rallen’s encounter with the Xelles on Meido in Beyond The Portals.

Spectrobes: Beyond the Portals[]

Nanairo is subject to another Krawl invasion, this time headed by the four intelligent High Krawl. The four use a small Krawl force to distract Rallen and the NPP with their real goal being the destruction of the ancient Tower on each of the planets. These devices are ancient creations that disrupt the creation of Portals in the surrounding space, also created by the ancient human settlers to prevent the pursuing Krawl from easily accessing the system. With the Towers destroyed, the High Krawl open interstellar Portals to allow the full Krawl invasion force into Nanairo. Rallen and Jeena venture to each of the ruined systems beyond the Portals and destroy the Krawl swarms there, though the Portals remain open in Nanairo.

Spectrobes: Origins[]

The Nanairo system is briefly seen in the game’s intro, but Rallen and Jeena are pulled into a mysterious temporary Portal that transports them to the Kaio system. The remained of the game follows their quest to defeat the Krawl in Kaio and return to Nanairo, with the game ending as soon as they depart for Kollin.

Trivia[]

Nanairo comes from the Japanese word of the same pronounciation, (七色) which literally translates to “seven colors”. Interestingly, this description applies both the the system’s starlight as well as its seven planets, with each representing one color of the rainbow:

  • Red for Genshi
  • Orange for Ziba
  • Yellow for Nessa
  • Green for Daichi
  • Blue for Kollin
  • Indigo for Himuro
  • Violet for Meido
